How a root canal can give your tooth a second chance.

If you suffer from tooth pain that never seems to go away, you might be tempted to just have the tooth removed. Don’t do it! You will be faced with living with an incomplete smile or replacing the tooth with a dental appliance or a dental implant. You can eliminate tooth pain and save your tooth with root canal treatment.

Dr. P. Steven Wainess in St. Clair Shores, Michigan offers a wide selection of dental services, including root canal treatment to give your tooth a second chance.

Dental pain is often caused by tooth decay. If decay has penetrated the upper two tooth layers, the enamel, and dentin, you can still get relief with a simple filling in most cases.

If the decay has penetrated the innermost layer of your tooth, an area known as the pulp, this is where the nerves and blood supply to the tooth are located. If you have pulp involvement, you need a root canal to save the tooth.

To start a root canal, your dentist will make a small opening on the top of your tooth. The infected and diseased pulp tissue is drawn out through this opening.

A sedative material is placed inside your tooth. This material eliminates infection, inflammation, pressure, and pain. After your tooth pain is completely gone, the sedative material is removed and inert material is placed inside your tooth. The inert material stays inside your tooth and the opening is filled with a small permanent filling. Your root canal is complete, your pain is gone, and you still get to keep your tooth.

If you have tooth pain, keep your tooth and your smile by choosing root canal treatment.
